Project rethink continues….

Well from looking at The Diamond Age by Neal Stephenson, and looking around at forms of Tutorial based technology and situation based learning like the Primer I’ve moved away from wearable technology per say and i’m going to try and look at HUD ( heads up display)inspired systems, i still think the Wii Remote work will come in handy, but i think it’ll be a flash based web camera utilizing program, with a system that echoes much of the VR / AR from games like Ghost Recon and Metal Gear solid.

The General idea so far is in certain situations it would be ideal to have a professional able to look at a system and have a HUD system give pointers or tutorial tips on how to trouble shoot and fix this item, could be military use, engineer, or DIY for domestic use.

The design is on going, and ive yet to show Shaun properly.

4d: Motion capture progress!

Posted in 4D on February 12, 2009 by designzoo

ive been working on the flash motion capture, at the moment, i have a working prototype, which is the same code as the last try, but with better quality and will hopefuly allow me to build upon it to get a still image of the room in it.  At the moment it works by only revealing the sections where there is movement, so waving your hand in front of the camera will reveal your hand, i want it to reveal the area, the space, in which your hand is.

heres that version

webcamv2

The aim is now to use a pre taken image of the room that it’ll be set up in, or have it take one on set up, and reveal this image instead of the live video upon movement detection.  Looking at mask layers for this at the moment.

Rethink?

Been having a rethink into the progress of my dissertation and my project.  Im trying to reign in the project to fit the dissertation (which is going great…)

My Dissertation tutor Mike has pointed me in the direction of a guide, like a manual but of the body, using anatomy books to illustrate a project that makes the body a machine, echoing Leonardo da Vinci and later transhumanist though.

Original ideas were a manual to the body, like a medical guide to the body and its parts, with trouble shooting sections etc like in a tv manual etc.

Ive spoken about this with Shaun and were moving away from this idea a little, looking at The Diamond Age : A young ladys illustrated Primer, by Neal Stephenson.

“The Primer is intended to make sure its reader leads an interesting life as defined by Lord Alexander Chung-Sik Finkle-McGraw and grows up to be an effective member of society. The Primer also reacts to its owners environment and teaches them what they need to know to survive and grow.”
